Translating complex climate science into actionable insights for New York communities
OverView
The NYC Panel on Climate Change (NPCC) serves as the city’s primary source for climate science and projections. With the release of their 4th Climate Assessment, they needed a digital platform that makes complex climate research accessible to everyone from concerned residents to business leaders to the scientific community. The challenge was creating a user experience that serves multiple audiences with vastly different needs and technical expertise levels.
Solution
We developed a comprehensive UX strategy and full-stack digital platform that transforms how NYC’s climate research reaches its audiences. The new website presents climate findings through a tiered information architecture, allowing users to engage with content at their comfort level—from plain language summaries to detailed scientific reports. Built on a managed WordPress platform for easy maintenance, the site includes a dynamic assessment archive, contextual resource sharing, and a news section for ongoing updates. The platform is designed for sustainability, with clear documentation and handoff protocols for the next research cohort (NPCC5). This project was a collaboration with Climate Adaptation Partners who managed the project and interfaced with scientific researchers and city hall while providing strategic support and content development.
